Dreamy Dysynni & Bird Rock
£7.00
Magical scenery and the chance to step back in time are offered by this delightful walk in the dreamy Dysynni Valley which is unspoilt and dominated by impressive Craig yr Aderyn (Bird Rock). The route will pass landmarks including Mary Jones' Cottage and Castell-y-Bere as well as St Michael's Church, notable for its leprosy window. Mary Jones was a 15-year-old girl whose barefoot walk over the hills to Bala in 1800 inspired the formation of the British and Foreign Bible Society, while evocative Castell-y-bere is a Welsh castle dating back to 1220. Craggy Bird Rock, once on the seashore, is now the largest inland breeding site for cormorants in Wales. Small sections of the walk may be boggy in wet weather. There are toilets at the start which is a small, free car park next to St Michael's Church in the hamlet of Llanfihangel-y-Pennant which sits in the lee of Cadair Idris.
