This firm favourite of the festival is a circular walk from registration at the Carousal Cafe (LL42 1AN) in Barmouth and one of the most rewarding ways to explore the beautiful Mawddach estuary and the rugged lower slopes of southern Eryri National Park. It blends sweeping coastal views with fascinating local history. Setting off from the town, the route quickly climbs to the famous Barmouth Panorama where the effort is repaid with a stunning outlook across the estuary, the Cadair Idris range, and the coastline stretching out into Cardigan Bay. It then weaves along hillside paths toward Dinas Oleu, the first piece of land gifted to the National Trust, and the Frenchman's Grave, pushing higher into more remote terrain reaching the extensive remains of the once flourishing Barmouth manganese mines. Some sections are rocky and steep.
