NEW Traversing The Rhinogydd
£12.00
An exciting opportunity to traverse the Northern Rhinogydd (Rhinogs) is offered by this new linear walk from near Trawsfynydd to Talsarnau crossing the ridge of the rugged mountains including the four summits of Moel y Gyrafolen, Diffwys (not to be confused with the other bigger Diffwys further south), Foel Penolau and Moel Ysgyfarnogod. From the start near Tyn Twll at the south west corner of Llyn Trawsfynydd, the route ascends for a mile through fields which can be soggy arriving at the bilberry and heather-clad slopes of the first peak with a minor scramble towards the flat top. It then crosses the three other tops with ascents mostly on rocky ground with short sections of easy scrambling. After lunch on Ysgyfarnogod with lovely views of Cardigan Bay, the higher Eryri (Snowdonia) peaks and the coast of Pen Llyn out to Bardsey Island, the majority of the walk is downhill initially on flat beds of 520 million-year-old Cambrian rocks before joining a scenic miners' track past old manganese mines and then on to Lyn Eiddew Bach and the village of Soar ending at Talsarnau where there is a pub. The minibus will depart from registration at the Carousal Cafe in Barmouth while the return from Talsarnau will be by bus or train. Public Transport - the return to Barmouth from Talsarnau will be by train at 2.13 or 4.13pm or bus at 2.44, 3.44 or 4.44pm.
