NEW SUPER-WALK Crossing Idris's Seat

This high-level challenging super-walk across the glorious, extended Cadair Idris ridge from Dolgellau to Barmouth is for experienced mountain walkers only. Participants need to be prepared for a strenuous all day walk. It begins by meeting at the registration point at the Carousal Cafe (LL42 1AN) in Barmouth and catching the 7.30am T3 bus to Dolgellau. We will head uphill out of the town and through woodland and farmland,with a few stretches of quiet lanes, and then a steep climb up onto the ridge. There will be a long ascent of the whole ridge over Mynydd Moel to Penygadair, the high point of the Cadair Idris range at 2,930 feet (893m) reaching the summit trig point, and the shelter that is very welcome at times. Heading down the Pony Path for a time we will turn off to climb Tyrrau Mawr, the last big ascent, before a long and sometimes steep descent with some uphill sections. We come off the hills through forestry, woodland and farmland, eventually crossing Barmouth Bridge into the town finishing at the harbour where we can look up at some of the high points of our walk - and possibly take a well earned rest in one of Barmouth's public houses.
