NEW Wildlife Wander Amid An Explosive Past

SKU Walk 15
Price

£7.00

Join us for a leisurely wander through an intriguing nature reserve managed by the North Wales Wildlife Trust on a site that produced more than 17 million grenades during World War Two! Gwaith Powdwr (Powder Works) at Penrhyndeudraeth is a decommissioned explosives factory, founded in 1865, where remains of its buildings now provide a refuge for wildlife. This is easy walking on good paths with one incline with plenty of excuses to pause for stunning views, learning about the site’s industrial past, enjoy the nature and peace that has replaced explosions beside the glorious Dwyryd Estuary. It should be prime fungi season plus bring your binoculars and bird identifier apps will be buzzing with bird calls. Dogs must be on leads. For Gwaith Powdwr Nature Reserve (LL48 6LT) turn into Cooke’s Industrial Estate, following it for 70 yards to the gates. Limited parking can be found either there (SH 616 388) or further down the road towards Pont Briwet (SH 618 384). Public transport Train from Barmouth at 10.01am to Penrhyndeudraeth, arriving 10.39am Return is 2.10pm from Penrhyndeudraeth. (subject to any timetable changes from September 13) .
