Golden Diffwys
£6.00
Remains of the Welsh gold mining industry are among the highlights of this circular walk which reaches the rounded summit of Diffwys, the peak which dominates the north side of the Mawddach Estuary. Gold and manganese mining flourished in this area with the route passing the Clogau Mine which was once the richest in the Dolgellau area and is still a well known name. The walk starts at the Farchynys car park at Bontddu and follows a woodland path up to Figra Bridge, Clogau and then towards Cwm Mynach ascending steeply via old manganese workings to the trig point. The more gentle, grassy descent along a section of the Cambrian Way returns via the old mail coach track from Harlech to Dolgellau.
