Twin Lakes & A Lion's Head
£7.00
A delightful circular walk leaving the registration point at the Carousal Cafe (LL42 1AN) in King Edward Street, Barmouth via the Grade Two listed railway bridge constructed in 1867. There is a steep climb from Morfa Mawddach through woodland passing several disused quarries and emerging below Braich Ddu for a morning break with stunning views over the estuary, coast and beyond. The walk then follows open moorland with a lunch stop at the tranquil twin lakes of Llynnau Cregennan (with toilets) situated on the northern slopes of Cadair Idris at a height of 800 feet. The route continues with a short ascent of Pared-y-Cefn hir, the Lion's Head. The summit offers superb views and the remains of an ancient hillfort. The descent is via the beautiful Arthog Waterfalls in peaceful woodland and then follows the Cambrian Way along the southern side of the estuary, crossing back into Barmouth via the railway bridge. Some of woodland paths can be rough and muddy in places.
