A Golden Trail - Mining Tracks & An Ancient Woodland

SKU Walk 06
Price

£7.00

Gold-mining history and the Celtic rain forest are features of this circular walk up through the RSPB’s Coed Garth Gell nature reserve taking in heathland and ancient oak woodland within the stunning Mawddach valley. Local wildlife expert Matthew Davies will lead one of his popular walks which are great for all ages. The first half will be steep but taken at a slow pace and may be muddy. The second half of the walk will be all downhill. Ruined farmsteads and abandoned gold-mine buildings and workings pepper the route but no promises of finding gold!. Weather permitting we should have great views of the Mawddach Estuary, Y Garn and Cadair Idris. The walk starts at Fiddlers Elbow Layby, Bontddu, an Eryri National Park picnic site off the A496. Car sharing is recommended due to limited parking at the start point. Dogs must be on leads
