NEW Russian Round
£7.00
This is a spectacular new linear walk for the festival starting from the Crimea Pass car park above the slate mining town of Blaneau Ffestiniog. The pass takes its name from the Crimean War which was being fought in 1854 when the road was opened. Stone walls in the area were built by Russian prisoners-of-war. The route includes the seldom walked peaks of Allt-Fawr, Moel Druman, Ysgafel Wen and Moel Meirch with views of Blaenau and looking south towards Cardigan Bay. Gradually the scenery changes to reveal Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and the dragon's back Crib Coch ridge. From Moel Meirch the walk descends to Bwlch y Rhediad and the end point of Pont Rufeinig. The terrain begins mainly on grassy slopes with some boggy areas. The descent follows rocky, steep paths while the valley sections are on well defined tracks. Some car-sharing will be required as it is linear. There are no toilets at the start or end. Dogs will need to be on a lead at all times.
